Thirst exists to intentionally train young people who desire to be faithful followers of Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20).
Throughout Scripture, physical thirst is used as a metaphor to help us understand how God desires us to relate to Him. Jeremiah 2:9-13 is God stating His case against Israel. In this passage He lays out the twofold sin of His people – they traded Him, the fountain of living water and dug their own wells which never hold anything that offers lasting satisfaction.
Jesus said those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled. Eternity is described as Jesus continually satisfying the thirsty. Thirst is a discipleship ministry for those who realize that true joy comes from drinking deeply of a relationship with the Lord of the universe.
Since 2008 the O’Tools have been privileged to work with many young people through many different avenues. Some have come and gone. Some become dear friends, family even. There have been heartbreaking stories and stories that will warm the coldest heart. But one thing is clear. When God transforms the life of a young person, He continues that work to complete it.
“Every disciple, when he is fully trained, will be like his teacher.” – Jesus.
The evidence of a mature follower of Jesus is the desire and ability to lead others in their walk with Christ. Thirst aims to do just that; train believers to reach others.
