David Canham

David came to Jesus at a very young age. His father passed away when he was two, and his mother moved to Welkom where she raised the 6 children on her own. A teacher by nature and by trade, she started a daycare where she could earn a living for the family as well as minister to her local community.

Our family has known David for a long time. In fact, he’s one of the first people we met in South Africa. In 2006, while on a survey trip, we held a Neighborhood Bible Club at the complex where his family lives. Actually, it was right outside his front door!

David was 11 years old at the time, but that didn’t stop him from being part of the ministry. Since I only speak English and most of the kids would understand better in Sesotho, David translated for me as I gave the gospel message.

Our relationship with David really took off in 2013 when we started a youth group for the teens at Welkom Baptist Church. David quickly became one of the top leaders of the group and was faithful at Bible studies and outreach events. In 2015 he left to attend university and it left a massive hole to be filled. But he is able to come back frequently and remains as active as possible in the ministry. In 2015 David was an assistant director at Unashamed Camp.

God has worked in and through David and we’ve had the privilege to call him our friend. Seeing the growth that God has accomplished in his life is a testimony to the faithfulness of His power to cause growth in those who yield to Him.
